POOSALAR DREAM

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

Hi, hope everyone is doing good. As we are all sucked in lock-down because of nature, everyone obviously started missing something/someone very close. It can be anything irrespective of food; friends; beloved ones; favorite outing spots; and so on. But I personally started missing the habit of visiting “Saibaba” temple. It created lack of energy and disturbed my peace of mind. During this period, I got an opportunity to read an article about “Poosalar Nayanar.” It created a great impact on me. The theme of the article is “Though we couldn’t visit the respective guru (GOD) we admire and love the most, just imagine yourself standing before him” is all that we need to do. Your true devotion will surely make it happen in real.

The above explanation might look weird, but it came true in Poosalar’ s life. This blog purely discusses about Poosalar and his devotion towards lord Shiva. Poosalar is a saint priest born in Hindu sect of Shaivism, where the people fall in this community consider Lord Shiva as their almighty. He was counted as 58th Nayanar among 63. He lived in Thiruninravur, those time it was part of Tondai Nadu which was ruled by King Pallava.

Poosalar was born in the poor family background and seem to be well educated in-spite of his status. From his childhood he has the habit of worshiping small “Linga” statue. The statue was kept in the open space, so it has been heavily affected by different climatic conditions. This thing stimulated Poosalar to build a temple for Shiva.

Poosalar tried many methods and attempted to receive help from different person to build the temple for his almighty. But unfortunately, he couldn’t gather financial support to build a temple. After all the failures, he decided to build a temple in his heart (kind of imagination). He sat near the tree and started creating an empty space, gathering all the things (sand; wood; stone) required to build a temple. He spent days together to build the temple which he waited so far. One fine day his dream of building a temple came true in his imagination. He had also selected a holy day for consecration (Kumbhabhishekam ceremony) and to place lord Shiva statue in garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum, the innermost sanctuary of Hindu and Jain people).

Meantime the King Kadavarkon of Pallava, had completed grand Shiva temple in the capital of Kanchipuram. He also selected date for consecration. The date selected by Pallava King and Poosalar falls on the same day. Before the day of consecration Pallava King had a dream. Lord Shiva appeared in his dream, asked him to postpone the consecration ceremony to some other day. As he was traveling to Thiruninravur to attend the consecration ceremony of his beloved devotee on the same day. Lord Shiva said these words and disappeared. The King waked up from his sleep and recalled everything he seen in his dream.

The King Pallava sent notice to the ministers to cancel the consecration ceremony and decided to attend the consecration taking part in Thiruninravur the next day. Once he reached Thiruninravur, he started searching for the temple everywhere. But to his surprise he couldn’t find anything there. He started enquiring about Poosalar to the people staying there. Some people guided him to Poosalar and added a note to him that “Poosalar look weird, who will be sitting near to the tree and always utters a word as he was building a temple for lord Shiva.”

Finally, King Pallava found Poosalar sitting near the tree, and he checked with him about the temple. Poosalar replied him saying, the temple has been build already and today auspicious consecration ceremony is yet to take place. The King asked the Poosalar where the temple was, he said it was in his heart (kind of imagination). The King was very pleased by his words and felt happy to see a devotee like him. So, he decided to build a temple for Lord Shiva on behalf of Poosalar.

The temple was named as, Hridayaleeswarar (any individual who suffers from heart disease or any problem related to heart will get cured if they visit this temple for a while.).

By this Poosalar dream of building a temple to Lord Shiva came true. The moral of this article is that hold on to your dream even though you have no way to make it happen. Everything is possible, don’t choose the way to give up. Keep trying, give life to all your dreams either in imagination today and reality by tomorrow.
