ANIMATION

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

Hi, guys. Hope Christmas facts been interesting to you all to read and understand. Now I have planned sharing basics of “Animation” which plays vital role in social media. Even students gets easily attracted to it and planning to take up course on it. Animation also has the ability to attract kids because of its colorful impact.

Animation in general is the method of controlling or influencing the idle pictures to appear as a moving images. The word animation comes from a Latin verb “Animate” meaning make alive or to fill with breathe.

Today most of the animations are made using computer generated imagery (CGI). Computer animation involves both 2D and 3D method.

Types of Animation:

Traditional animation

In this animator followed the method of drawing and painting each and every frames, characters, layouts, backgrounds on paper. This was the dominant method used in cinema throughout 20th century until the advent of computer animation.

This technology has been in practice during the interval of 1914 to 1967. The technology works by drawing the pictures on the cels, superimpose those images on the background images to reduce the multiple frame usage and production times. Colonel Heeza Liar was the first animated series created using this technique.

2D Animation (vector based)

It is nothing but the computer generated 2D animations. Here the animator focuses on creating objects; story boards; and backgrounds in two dimensional environments.

Here it use bitmap (digital image composed of matrix dots where each dots corresponds to individual pixels in different colors together forms a rectangular type image) and vector graphics (creation of digital images using sequence of commands or mathematical statement. In physics it involves both the quantity and direction) to create and animate images.

For animation process the technician uses computers and software programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Flash, After Effects, and Encore.

3D Animation (CGI and Computer based)

It is the method of animating the objects in three dimensional space. Here the objects are treated as an original images which can be rotated and moved in three different directions. It acts as the heart of games and virtual reality.

It involves both the computer and computer generated imagery technique where computer animation only refers to moving images and generate images digitally. Whereas CGI surrounds both static (fixed or stationary) and dynamic (change, forceful/ movable) images. It is also used in presentation graphics to add better clarity for visual images.

The animator used this method to create unique characters for commercials; television; and movies. The software used for 3D animation is Autodesk 3ds Max (3D computer graphics used in TV; feature film production; architectural; and product visualization).

MOTION GRAPHICS (Typography and animated logos)

It is the animation pieces or digital footage which create illusion of motion or rotation of images. It also combines audio with it for multimedia projects. It is displayed using electronic media technology.

Electronic media technology is the bridge gap between traditional media production disciplines and new technology media production. It provides instructions for research skills; critical studies in media and portfolio development.

It act as the crossroad between animation and graphic design. The major purpose is to present the information to the viewer using animated texts or graphics.

The best software used in motion graphics are: Autodesk Maya; Adobe after Effects; Adobe Premiere Pro; and Adobe Photoshop.

Stop Motion (Claymation and Cuts-outs)

It is the film-making animated technique where the objects are physically manipulated to some extents. This helps in displaying the independent motion of the controlled objects. This also displays slow motion and playback sequence of the object frame.

Stop motion production using clay is very difficult. Usually normal frame runs at 24 frames per second (frame/sec). For standard practice of double-framing, exposing two frames for each slot involves 12 changes made for one second of film movement.

Yup! I summarize here the above article helps the beginners to kick start their idea about the term animation and types.
